no need for a recount

well, now that we know the results of the upcoming election, why even bother voting? obviously these things are always right:

If history holds, the 28-14 result portends a victory for Kerry on Tuesday because the result of the Redskins’ final home game before the presidential election has always accurately predicted the White House winner.

yeah, I’ll believe it when I see it. what doesn’t help is that this whole nfl season is so unpredictable. it’s like the balance of the traditionally strong teams has finally been upset — the texans, chargers, falcons and lions are actually decent; the steelers made the patriots look like chumps, and the packers and buccaneers are scraping along.

also, the entire cbs nfl presentation is a pile of shit. the more I watch it, the more I hate it. greg gumbel is talentless, his supporting cast regurgitates the same information every week, the theme song is like an aborted handel creation, and their graphics look like they’re stuck in 1980s local newscast “metallic power” mode. the entire thing just sucks. these are the same guys that actually hired deion sanders for his commentary (pre-comeback). what does that tell you?

that’s not to say fox is much better: for every item you see on screen, fox has a sound effect for it. I’m serious. I’m guessing some fox executive said something like, “I want to feel second down. how about a cool mechanical *whoosh* to tell me, since I can’t tell that the play is over from looking at the screen?” and I shouldn’t even have to mention all of the flashy crap they put on the screen. every damn thing has to flash and fold in/away like they stole it from a video game called “XTREME SPORTZZ AWESOME”. I’m surprised they haven’t been sued by people with epilepsy.

I guess it shouldn’t come as a shock that espn is the best. nothing too obtrusive on-screen, and the announcers don’t say too much stupid shit. these people are pros. so when it came to the impromptu fiesta bowl rematch of craig krenzel and ken dorsey, I was actually looking forward to the game, and not worrying about how annoyed I’d be by the presentation. as usual, krenzel was pretty solid. he didn’t get to use his molecular genetics degree, though. strangely enough, there were also some questionable calls by the officials, which made it even more like the fiesta bowl. only this time, there was an instant replay system in effect, and they still didn’t get it right.

Your right, as far as presentation goes, ESPN does a great job, now if they could only do something to shut up Theisman when he’s on the cusp of his own stupidity, which is most of the time. Example, last night he claimed Krenzel was only 3 wins behind Roethlesberger. Wow, thanks Joe…but it’s 4. Oh well, can’t win em all I guess.

well, the sad thing is, they still have the best announcers in the game. I think it helps that espn is in an environment that lives and breathes sports, unlike the others, who just in it for the weekend.
