state vs. state, state wins

guess I was the only one who expected a close game last night, though even I couldn’t predict an ending that close. but with d.will out since november, I had a feeling it wouldn’t be as easy as the “experts” thought it’d be. florida state had something to prove, just like texas does tonight. and when tony hunt was injured on the first drive, that meant the two main offensive weapons were gone. the night was a constantly unfolding chain of events; with so many injuries to key players, the lions had a tough time getting anywhere.

  1. FSU’s DBs were just as fast – or faster than – the lions’ freshman receivers, who don’t have the size to compensate. because robinson couldn’t get the ball downfield, they keyed in on the run early, and brought things to a halt.
  2. austin scott – tony hunt’s replacement at TB – while quick when he’s got room to run, has always been too slow to hit the hole, giving the defense ample time to close up. this, and his constant injuries, are why he’s #2 in the rotation.
  3. the combination of an injury to brandon snow – starting fullback – and austin scott’s poor blocking, more or less destroyed any hopes of pass protection.
  4. florida state probably wouldn’t have gotten that touchdown in the second OT if posluszny hadn’t been injured, and we all could’ve gone to bed a lot earlier.

hopefully texas will kick some ass tonight and make the title game as good as last night’s was.
