sherrod brown shot ‘em down

well, things went pretty much as expected yesterday, though there were still a fair share of mishaps. I was one of the many forced to vote provisionally at the polls for having a different address on my license.

The DNC says there were many reports of ID confusion by poll workers. In Columbus, people with driver’s licenses that did not match the rolls were forced to vote provisionally, which should not happen.

yeah, about that… the thing is, I sent in the change of address card 3 months ago. where did it go?

when I received my denied application for absentee voting (this past saturday while I was out of town, by the way – no time for recourse), I thought it was kind of strange. I checked my franklin county board of elections listing, and it was still my old address. so I figured I’d vote at the old location and be done with it. well, after 20 minutes of the poll workers flipping through the regulation book (and the revised copy from that morning that overrode most of it), they came to the conclusion that they had no idea what to do, because my addresses didn’t match. so they pointed me to my new location, and said a provisional vote would still count. maybe. possibly.

hopefully.

can’t blame the poll workers; they’re just volunteers… it’s not like they read the rules and regulations for fun and profit. they don’t whisper appendix 3-a into each others ears lovingly. no, it’s the system that’s still completely screwed up, even with all of the so-called reforms that were to be introduced. luckily, it was “only” a midterm election, but I shudder to think what will happen in 2 years’ time, when the presidential office is on the line.

it all makes me even more glad that blackwell is out of office. the guy botched so many election reforms that he was supposed to oversee. how the hell was he supposed to run the state? what was he doing all that time?
