hope you like falsetto.

life in cartoon motion

I’ve been listening to mika’s new album for the past few weeks now, but I’m still hesitant to recommend it to anyone. while the songs are catchy, they’re also an acquired taste for anyone used to the generic music filling the airwaves. best I can describe it is a cross between queen and the scissor sisters, with some barry gibb thrown in for good measure. what can I say? the guy loves him some falsetto.

no, seriously. there’s a LOT.

you’ve probably heard “grace kelly”. it’s been getting more and more airplay over the past few months on the alt stations. and while it might not seem memorable at first – the chorus is especially weird – the more you listen to it, the more it’ll run through your head.

finished listening? is that falsetto done ringing your ears? well, here’s some more in case it didn’t:

recognize the melody? “relax (take it easy)” is actually based off of cutting crew’s “(I just) died in your arms”. that’s right: someone actually covered it, and not as a joke.

mika’s voice has been drawing a lot of comparisons to freddie mercury, and I don’t think any other song on the album illustrates it better than “stuck in the middle”:

I’m sure he also wears lots of leather and goes sleeveless whenever possible.

all in all, a pretty decent debult. though there is this crazy-ass song “lollipop”, but I’m not going torture any of you with it. I have no doubt he ripped off one of those KIDZ BOP cds just to fill out the tracklist.
