lost but not gone forever
does this sound… strangely familiar to anyone?

if you said “sounds like guster”, then you think the same way I do. only this song, where we went wrong, is actually by a group called “the hush sound”, and the rest of the album doesn’t really sound quite as guster-esque. mostly because the lead singer duties are shared between a guy and a girl instead of 3 hippies, but also because their lyrics are kind of… eh.

also, aside from guster’s most recent album, they’ve been a predominantly acoustic group. the hush sound uses piano, organ, electric guitar & bass, and whatever else they feel like. both groups like to harmonize about the same amount, but in a couple of songs, there’s something about how the female lead singer in the hush sound just seems… off. it’s hard to describe, because she has a good voice and decent range, but it reminds me of middle/high school talent shows where contestants push their voices in weird ways to fit songs, and it ends up sounding forced:

sure, I’m probably just nitpicking, because it’s actually a really good album, especially for a relatively unknown group. there are more than a few well-written songs, and for the most part they seem refined, though they definitely have a college radio station vibe to them.
