after 2.5 short years

…I’ve finally decided I should start unpacking the boxes in my basement. huzzah? so the question now is how many ikea bookcases will fit in my car, and how much my mileage will be affected by the extra weight. then again, I haven’t exactly been hypermiling lately.

I overheard a conversation the other day between a couple of people saying how they longed to get rid of their ikea furniture and “move up” — as if their entire home consisted of several poang chairs arranged facing each other. hey, this is not sauder we’re talking about, folks. I suppose upgrading is fine if you’re expecting to hand your plastic-sheathed couch and roll-top desk down to your grandkids someday. but to me, there’s something about cheap, simple swedish furniture that really warms your soul… though it could be the tasty swedish meatballs, now that I think about it.

in any case, the robots will have burned everything to the ground come 2012, so what’s the point in keeping expensive stuff around anyway?
